I was a student at Awahono School in Greymouth and this is where I shared my learning.

Keeping Safe on The Internet
Keeping Safe on The Internet. Are you safe on the Internet? Here are some signs to see if you safe online.
Salt And Pepper
If I could build a hotel I would build it in a populated city where tourists would visit and maybe stay. I would build my hotel out of wood with steel framing for extra strength. my prices would be: $120 dollars a night for a simple room and my other price would be $250 for a V.I.P room.

Little House On The Prairie SMA (Stop Motion Animation)
In class we have been reading a book called Little House On The Prairie. We were given a series of tasks but we chose to make an animation. We had a lot of ups and downs because on some bits we realised that it didn't go like that or it wasn't in the story. We had trouble finding characters and that is why there are only two characters in the entire thing. This isn't perfect but we tried our best. Here it is.

Chairs
Last week on Thursday Mrs Ealam taught us. We had some old chairs in the shed so we decided to put them to good use. We got a group and I was with Tane, Fred and Angus. We had to think of a theme to put on it. We chose vehicles. Next we had to find vehicles in magazines and after we found a bunch we started cutting them out and sticking them on. It was all good until we had used all the vehicles and had to find more. Good thing Angus had found a magazine and it was like we had struck gold but in vehicles. After we had filled up all the wood on the chairs we coated it in mod podge to make it look shiny. In the end it looked incredible. I think I could have worked better with my buddies because we kind of argued a little.

Collage
We were learning to make a collage to represent the pollution in our oceans. I worked decently with my buddy. It was a little bit hard to get the finished product because our group was the only one with two people in it. Next time I think we could have a little bit more help. Something we could have done better was do a better job at overlapping and filling in all the white spots we still have. I would next time like to have a buddy that helps a little bit more. I also think we could have added a little island with a beached whale or shark.

Letter To The Principal, About Plastic Bin Liners
In room five we have been doing persuasive writing to the principal about plastic bin liners in the classroom bins. We were learning to organise our ideas in paragraphs and use a topic sentence at the start of each paragraph. I have come up with three reasons to stop using plastic bin liners.
10th September 2018
Dear Mrs Wallace,
In our school we have plastic bin liners placed in the classroom rubbish bins when we don’t really need them. I strongly believe that we should stop using plastic bags in our bins. There are three good reasons to stop using plastic bags in our bins.
Firstly, every year we use up to 2000 plastic bin liners. We counted all the bins that have plastic bin liners in them. That is a lot of money and if we stopped using them we could save hundreds of dollars over time and buy sports equipment and lots of other things.
Secondly, mostly dry materials go into the bins. All the rubbish goes into big black sacks so why have all the rubbish in bin liners if it’s just going to go into a big sack? Only a few of the school’s bins have wet materials go into them (the staff room and the chook bin).
Thirdly, putting plastic bin liners in the rubbish bins causes pollution and kills sea life and land animals. If we stop using plastic bin liners we could save hundreds of animals lives. Not only that, but the resources used to make plastic bin liners such as oil can only be used once, so every plastic bag cannot be made into something brand new.
In conclusion, I think it is a waste of earth's resources to make plastic bags that can only be used once. Also pretty much dry materials go into the bins but some of the bins have wet materials like the chook bin so we only need two or three bins that need plastic bin liners. With the money we would have spare, we could buy more relevant things such as sports equipment and better projector equipment, plus we could save animals.
Yours sincerely
Blake

El Gregoe
Yesterday we had a magician and ventriloquist come to our school called El Gregoe. El Gregoe showed us the 5 steps to being a good student: respect, helpful, trustworthy, responsible and caring. He also showed us some very cool birds from Africa like a big parrot. He showed us some magic tricks and told us how he became a magician. One of the magic tricks was he had an empty box and he got someone from the crowd and he got a wand and it didn't work but he kept going until he had a huge wand and that was just one of his many magic tricks. Here are some photos.

Shapes
In room five for maths we have been learning about shapes. Tane and I made a Screencastify about a few shapes.
The Plastic Ocean
In room five we have done another story about plastic a bit like the plastic toy shop writing. Our goal was to write in present tense and make sure our sentences have detail.. We had to pretend that we were working at the place or being a visitor. The picture we got this writing from will be below. We had to use sights, sounds, smells, feelings and sensations. Here is mine.
Website
The Plastic Ocean
As I walk across the bridge I notice that there are lots of crunching sounds so I glance over and see that there are loads of bottles like the height of mini Mt Everest. I spot some people who look like they are in plastic land. I think to myself that would be so boring if I was doing that. I decide to go and have a look down there and straight away I see huge sacks are placed under the bridge packed to the brim with plastic bottles all shapes and sizes.
The plastic is the depth of a girls knees and looks as if it is an ocean built by plastic. I spot the mother of the kid and see she’s holding a knife. A big whiff of dusty air splashes into my face like I am at a water park and a ride just finishes and water goes everywhere. A lady looks like she is cutting the tags off and putting them in baskets. I feel sad for them… Then a guy walks up to me and says, “Eh man you’re trespassing” says the guy. From what I can see is that everyone there looks depressed mainly because they probably have a low pay job. As I walk away I think to myself “how many of these are there in the world?” because this plastic junkyard is not healthy for the environment.

Jenny Somervell, Author Visit
Yesterday room five and room six had an author visit. The author we had visit was a New Zealand author called Jenny Somervell. She read us a few of her books and one of them was called The Day Dad Blew Up The Cow Shed. She also read us one of her other books called The Eel Hunt. All of her books are based upon true things that happened in her life. Another thing she told us was the process of making a book and how she makes her books. Here are some photos of our visit.

The Plastic Toy Shop
The plastic toy shop
As I walk into the store it feels as if the whole structure of the shop is being held together with plastic stuff. Plastic soldiers, plastic planes, plastic Doras, plastic guns and much, much, more are packed on the shelves, top to bottom. The Doras are freaking me out with their eyes that stare deeper and deeper into my eyes and worst of all they NEVER BLINK…
I’m trying to choose my toy but all the typing from the keyboard sounds like they are having a spending spree typing all their details. It is getting on my nerves. Thinking about all the plastic and how it is going to get thrown away at some point makes me sad because all of the animals will die by mistaking it as food.
The colours are blinding me: neon colours of fresh toys from the factory. Gaudy colours are creating an impact that I have never seen before like it is melting my eyes until they pop out of my head.
Stealthily I walk around the shop trying not to wake up the person who is sleeping on the counter. I notice that there a loads of rip off nerf guns and there are loads and I mean LOADS of guns on the wall.
THIS SHOP NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN OR CALM DOWN ON ALL OF THE PLASTIC THAT THEY HAVE IN THE SHOP.

Symmetry
Today in room 5 we did something a bit like our fraction art called line symmetry. A line of symmetry is a line that splits a shape in half. Say you had a cake and you split it in half, then cut a line down the middle that would be the line of symmetry. We had to make different shapes for example: shapes with three sides, shapes with four side and shapes with more than four sides. Here they are.

Fraction Art
Today in room five we used fractions to make a picture. Our theme for it was the ocean. First of all, we had to cut out some circles and fold them in half and then we had to fold them again and we would end up with eighths and then again to get sixteenths. The creature with teeth was made out of 1 half, 3 eighths and 2 quarters, and the teeth were just cut out triangles.A few of us watched a video to give us an idea. Special thanks to this person: Sunshine22854 who inspired us to make these pictures. We had to make sea creatures out of the shapes we made. Here is mine.

Another Place, Another Time Writing
For writing in room five we looked at a picture. We had to use that picture to write a story. I will leave a little bit of my story so you can read it and if you enjoy it click here:Another Time, Another Place
As the sun disappeared over the horizon John, Rosalina, Jeffy and Bobbit teeter tottered towards the mist. The fog thickened as they got closer to grandma’s castle. Rosalina was a very sensible mother and was the only women in the family of four. Bobbit was the big brother who enjoyed to annoy his little brother Jeffy. John was the grumpy old dad who wasn’t looking forward to Rosalina’s grandma’s 100th birthday party.

Alliteration Poem
In room five we have been writing an alliteration poem. Our goal was to write a poem using as many "m" words as we can. Here is mine.
Mickey Mouse mounted a motorbike
and rode to Mcdonalds.
He ordered a Big Mac, he munched and crunched
until it was time to go get his moustache shaved.
While he was marching.
He was on his phone
playing monster legends.
He wasn’t looking at the road
and marched into a mysterious maze.
The maze had a sign on the side of it
that said "mushrooms caution if eaten may cause deadly side effects
you have been warned!"
It had mushrooms on it and a magpie guarded it.
The mushrooms were so called magical.
Mickey Mouse moved into the maze
and straight away
found a mushroom.
He took it
and ran out of the maze to his mansion.
"This is going to be marvellous!" murmured Mickey Mouse.
He cooked the mushroom and swallowed it whole.
He turned into a manikin.
"Macaroni and cheese!" screamed
Mickey Mouse.
He took a mountain bike
and a mug.
He was becoming a maniac motoring towards town.

What Is Black? Poem
In room five this term we have been writing poetry and so far we have written two different poems. For this poem we were told to pick a colour and Deakyn and I chose black, here is our poem.
What Is Black?
Could black be batman?
Or could it be a ninja?
Maybe a shadow
Of a ginger ninja,
Blacker than the night sky
Would you like to say hi
Or will it be a good-bye
Blacker than a bright light
Blacker than a funeral
Blackberries are black
Black like a black blanket
Black basketballs that bounce high,
And black soccer balls with a black and
yellow pattern on them
Blacker than a black cat
Blacker than a trampoline mat
A Black cave
A black hole
A big black Thunder cloud
Dropping black raindrops,
Black as a bat
Or a piece of coal for
The naughty children
Screaming in the blackout of movie theatre

My Book Review
"WOW" it is already the end of the term. We were asked to write another book review. If you haven't read my first one you could. The link is here:My Book Review. This time I wrote about Tom Gates Top Of The Class (nearly). Here it is.
The Swimming Race: A Sporting Moment in Time
Recently in Room five we had Midland Line Swimming Sports. We were told to write a description about that day. Here it is.
As I walk into the pool I start to feel butterflies in my stomach. All the other schools have arrived and are waiting for us to come and sit down. There are lots of schools there and as I walk to the bench, it is like they are all looking at me. The first race is the one hundred meter race. They have other one hundred meters races because there are more then five competitors. After that race they call out number three “NOW I’M REALLY NERVOUS!”. This race is the one length freestyle, here we go I’m in the pool waiting for the teacher to SLAM! the bricks together. All of a sudden SLAM! I get off to a bad start so I go faster I can see the other racers next to me zooming ahead of me I kick harder and end up coming third I hit the end in relief “Race Well Done” I grumble to myself. "OKAY" I think to myself I can do this I check my arm and realize I have quite some time till my next race.
Okay, now we are at number 10 and I’m waiting in line with my opponents thinking about winning, although I don’t think I will. We are next. As I wait in the water my hand starts to hurt then SLAMMMMMMM!! Go the bricks sounding like they are going to break it is then when I get halfway across the pool on my first length I realize i’m second “I CAN DO THIS’’ I say in my mind. On my second length now I saved my energy on the last lap and now I think I am first, and before you know it I’ve hit the end of the pool. Parents say “Good Job” and the ones that know me say “Well Done Blake” as I walk across the end of the pool trying not to trip over on the pool lane ropes.
I hand my time to the person who writes the times then I head back to the bench. I think my next race is one length breaststroke as I’m waiting my name gets called out and I’m waiting for the race that is happening now and I’m standing on the edge of the pool, I’m going to dive then “SLAMMMM!” off I go as I’m in the air, then when I splash into the water all that excitement fades away….. “What are you doing” I just about fell asleep, I push my head up and gulp for air I feel very weird doing this because I’m bobbing up for air every few seconds I push both of my hands and realize that I CAME FIRST! I’m so proud of myself. There were multiple races throughout the day and I can’t wait to do it again.
This is me in breaststroke!
This is me in breaststroke!
Global Warming
In room five we have been reading about Global Warming for Infobytes. We were asked to write about facts for global warming and the dangers about it. I did a Google drawing with Jake.

Haiku
In Room five we have been writing using Haiku. A Haiku is a traditional Japanese way of making a poem. If you want to make one for yourself you can see it by clicking on this link: Haiku.
The rules to making a Haiku is that you have to have five syllables on the first line and 7 on the next line then 5 again and you can't have any more than that. Here is mine.

Our Harold Visit 2018
In Room five we went to Harold. While we were there we learned about the digestive system and how it works. We also learned step by step where it goes and what the body parts of the digestive system are called. I worked on this with Deakyn and we wrote different parts that we could remember.
Hunting And Fishing Competition 2018
On Easter Weekend there was a Hunting and Fishing Competition. We were asked to write about it but some people didn't go to it so we had to think about what it was like and I didn't go to it so I had to think with the help of photos. We wrote a description about it using present tense and vivid words. Another thing we were working on was to zoom in on our writing and add detail. Here is mine.
Hunting and Fishing
Making my way to the Hunting and Fishing Competition for the first time, I can’t wait. I already feel disgusted by all the dried blood and wounds the poor animals had to go through when they got shot. I notice a tent that has driven everybody’s attention. I power walk over there trying not to be suspicious. I hear talking get all of a sudden louder. I try to push my way to the front but it is difficult because everyone is crammed in a small space.
After half an hour of just walking around I find some very disgusting dead hares, goats, deers, fish, and some eels that are alive. When I go to feel them the eels are slimy and slippery just like a squishy toy. I really am not a fan of eels because they are slippery and slimy. (I am also a little scared of them like they are going to bite me.) I notice a big red truck that has all of the deers hanging by their hooves and there is a big blue tractor. I am all of a sudden very interested in what is happening here. I think the tractor is lifting the deer and putting them on the truck. After three hours I get bored so I go home.
In my opinion I would like to go to the Hunting and Fishing Competition again, and maybe next year I will enter the competition. I think the point of the Hunting and Fishing competition is to lower the population of the pests in the area.

Cycling: A Sporting Moment In Time
A couple of weeks ago in room five we had safe cycling with Constable Joss. We have been learning how to use present tense in description form. Constable Joss taught us how to be safe when riding on the road. He showed us the actions for turning left and right and stopping.
Finally! We have finished the safety part of our cycling session with Constable Joss, now we can get into some real action, YEAH! I’m whizzing through the course at lighting speed. I can feel my bike wheels start to lift off into the atmosphere. I hit the jump and I think, “I believe I can fly,” and before you know it I’ve hit the ground, and I’m just about to hit the other ramp, but I have to stop because Constable Joss is fixing the ramp.
I pull the brakes and have to STOP! Then i’m ready to go again around the turn trying not to spin-out, criss crossing around the cones over the bumpy ladder, then stop. Waiting for my turn, waiting, waiting even more waiting and a little bit of chatter. Finally, it’s my turn, I go round the turn, up the ramp, round another turn, up another ramp, a little bit of criss-cross, then over the bumpy ladder, then it’s over again.
I bump into everyone and crash my bike left and right, which is very difficult to avoid doing. I can hear the people who are just finishing their lap going “that was so fun! I can’t wait to do that again!”. Just a couple of bikes to go “I FEEL LIKE A SUPERSTAR” criss-crossing, turning the corner, speeding up the ramp, around another turn, up another ramp, around another turn, criss-crossing, wobbling on the ladder sounding like the bike is going to break then stop. That was fun and I can’t wait to do it again.

Freestyle Snowboarding: A Sporting Moment in Time
In Room Five we have been writing about Zoi Zadowski-Synott. We were told to watch a Video about her. She won bronze in the Peyong Chang Winter Olympics. Our main goal was to describe what she would have felt having her board hit the ground and what she did in the air.
Zoi The Snowboarder Wins Bronze
Zoi is waiting for the buzzer to go. She is in a racing position. BEEEEEEEEEEEP! Off she goes, letting the hill take her away. Zoi goes at the speed of light and she's already halfway down the hill. She goes fast. There is a wind trail behind her. Zoi hits the jump at full blast, instantly going into a hedgehog position. As she gets ready to come down she gets the smallest glimpse of the crowd next to her cheering her on as she hits the ground, losing all of the pressure in her head. Zoi hopes she has won gold. All of the crowd is yelling her name as she fist pumps the air in joy. She has the largest grin on her face.

My Summer Poem
In Room five we have been learning to write a poem about summer inspired by a poem by Marci Ridlon. Marci Ridlon wrote a poem about her summer and we wrote a poem about our summer. Here is mine.
Remember that time when you
swallowed a mouthful
of salt water YUCK!
and the scent of salt
when you were walking
in the water?
Remember how the water felt
on your toes when you
were just walking there?
That was summer.
Remember that time
when you ate
such a big piece of ice
when you ate
such a big piece of ice
cream that you got brain freeze?
Remember how when you were sleeping
the mosquitoes bugged you?
That was summer.
Remember that time
when you smelled the pavement after a storm
when you smelled the pavement after a storm
and the time when you were so hot
you collapsed to the ground?
Remember how when you hopped into
the cold shower after a big walk and it felt so
refreshing?
That was summer.
Remember that time
when you found a piece
of greenstone and FREAKED OUT!
And the time when your parents
were being embarrassing in
public?
Remember how the air changed when
you walked into the shop?
That was summer.
Remember that time
when you belly-flopped into
into the river
and got everyone WET!
Or the time when you saw
an eel in the lake
and you FREAKED OUT!
Remember how you looked at the
river and asked if you could
hop in but they said
NO?
That was summer.

Look If you had one or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment would you capture it or just let it slip? Yo his palms are sweaty knees weak arms are heavy there's vomit on his sweater already, moms spaghetti he's nervous but on the surface he looks calm and ready to drop bombs but he keeps on forgetting what he wrote down the whole crowd goes so loud he opens his but the words won't come out he's chokin',how, everybody jokin' now the clocks run out times up, blaow! snap back to reality ,oh there goes gravity oh there goes Rabbit, he choked he's so mad but he won't give up that easy? No he won't have it, he knows his whole back city rope's It don't matter he's dope, he knows that but he's broke He's so staked that he knows when he goes back to his mobile home that's when it Back to the lab again yo, this whole rhapsody He better go capture this moment and hope it don't pass him
chorus
You better lose yourself in the music, the moment you own it you better never let it go you only get one do not miss your chance to blow this opportunity comes once in a lifetime You better [x2]
end chorus
The souls escaping through this whole that's gaping the world is mine for the taking make me king, as we move toward a new world order a normal life is borin', but super stardoms close to post mortem it only grows harder only grows hotter he blows us all over these hoes is all on him coast to coast shows he's known as the globetrotter lonely roads god only knows he's grown farther from home hes no father he goes home and barely knows his own daughter but hold your nose 'cause here goes the cold water his hoes don't want him no mo he's cold product they moved on to the next schmo who who flows he nose dove and sold nada so the soap opera is told and unfolds, I suppose it's old parnta, but the beat goes on Da da dumb da dumb da da

no more games i'm a change what you call rage tear this m**********n' roof off like two dogs caged i was playing in the beginnin', the mood all changed i been chewed up and spit out and booed off stage But I kept rhymin' and stepwritin' the next cipher Best believe somebody's payin' the pied piper All the pain inside amplified by the Fact that I can't get by with my nine to Five and I can't provide the right type of Life for my family 'cause man, these God damn food stamps don't buy diapers And its no movie, there's no Mekhi Phifer This is my life and these times are so hard And it's getting even harder tryin' to feed and water my seed, plus See dishonor caught up between bein' a father and a prima-donna Baby mama drama screamin' on and too much For me to want to say in one spot, another jam or not Has gotten me to the point, I'm like a snail I've got To formulate a plot fore I end up in jail or shot Success is my only m**********n' option, failures not Mom, I love you, but this trail has got to go, I cannot grow old in Salem's lot So here I go is my shot Feet fail me not 'cause maybe the only opportunity that I got
