Cycling: A Sporting Moment In Time

A couple of weeks ago in room five we had safe cycling with Constable Joss. We have been learning how to use present tense in description form. Constable Joss taught us how to be safe when riding on the road. He showed us the actions for turning left and right and stopping.

Finally! We have finished the safety part of our cycling session with Constable Joss, now we can get into some real action, YEAH! I’m whizzing through the course at lighting speed. I can feel my bike wheels start to lift off into the atmosphere. I hit the jump and I think, “I believe I can fly,”  and before you know it I’ve hit the ground, and I’m just about to hit the other ramp, but I have to stop because Constable Joss is fixing the ramp.

I pull the brakes and have to STOP! Then i’m ready to go again around the turn trying not to spin-out, criss crossing around the cones over the bumpy ladder, then stop. Waiting for my turn, waiting, waiting even more waiting and a little bit of chatter. Finally, it’s my turn, I go round the turn, up the ramp, round another turn, up another ramp, a little bit of criss-cross, then over the bumpy ladder, then it’s over again.

I bump into everyone and crash my bike left and right, which is very difficult to avoid doing. I can hear the people who are just finishing their lap going “that was so fun! I can’t wait to do that again!”. Just a couple of bikes to go “I FEEL LIKE A SUPERSTAR” criss-crossing, turning the corner, speeding up the ramp, around another turn, up another ramp, around another turn, criss-crossing, wobbling on the ladder sounding like the bike is going to break then stop. That was fun and I can’t wait to do it again.

Freestyle Snowboarding: A Sporting Moment in Time

In Room Five we have been writing about Zoi Zadowski-Synott. We were told to watch a Video about her. She won bronze in the Peyong Chang Winter Olympics. Our main goal was to describe what she would have felt having her board hit the ground and what she did in the air.

Zoi The Snowboarder Wins Bronze

Zoi is waiting for the buzzer to go. She is in a racing position. BEEEEEEEEEEEP! Off she goes, letting the hill take her away. Zoi goes at the speed of light and she's already halfway down the hill. She goes fast. There is a wind trail behind her. Zoi hits the jump at full blast, instantly going into a hedgehog position. As she gets ready to come down she gets the smallest glimpse of the crowd next to her cheering her on as she hits the ground, losing all of the pressure in her head. Zoi hopes she has won gold. All of the crowd is yelling her name as she fist pumps the air in joy. She has the largest grin on her face.

My Summer Poem

In Room five we have been learning to write a poem about summer inspired by a poem by Marci Ridlon. Marci Ridlon wrote a poem about her summer and we wrote a poem about our summer. Here is mine.

Remember that time when you
swallowed a mouthful
of salt water YUCK!
and the scent of salt
when you were walking
in the water?
Remember how the water felt
on your toes when you
were just walking there?
That was summer.

Remember that time
when you ate
such a big piece of ice
cream that you got brain freeze?
Remember how when you were sleeping
the mosquitoes bugged you?
That was summer.

Remember that time
when you smelled the pavement after a storm
and the time when you were so hot
you collapsed to the ground?
Remember how when you hopped into
the cold shower after a big walk and it felt so
refreshing?
That was summer.

Remember that time
when you found a piece
of greenstone and FREAKED OUT!
And the time when your parents
were being embarrassing in
public?
Remember how the air changed when
you walked into the shop?
That was summer.

Remember that time
when you  belly-flopped into
into the river
and got everyone WET!
Or the time when you saw
an eel in the lake
and you FREAKED OUT!
Remember how you looked at the
river and asked if you could
hop in but they said
NO?
That was summer.

My Book Review

In Room Five we have been learning how to write a book review. We had to find a book that we have read. My book review is about Greg From Diary of a Wimpy Kid Double Down.
