The Hungry Squirrel

The Hungry Squirrel

Early one morning near the edge of the forest there was a small squirrel gathering nuts while a hawk was gliding high in the sky.

The squirrel sensed something, he heard whooshing noises and the screams of a hawk. He glanced up and he knew that he was in danger! His tail went straight up with fear.  Panicking his paws planted firmly on the ground. His body was rigid.

The hawk was circling with a glint in his eye. He had a sharp beak that is yellow. he   had grey wings with white stripes it’s body is grey. The squirrel was ready to run but he quickly thought to grab the last of his nuts, then run. The hawk was scooping down.

The squirrel was stuck in the hawk's claws he was wiggling and jiggling. Once he was free he hid in his cozy willow tree the hawk was scared of him when he had gone.He decided to gather the last of his nuts.

Responding to feedback

It was  8:30am,  we were getting ready to go to daycare in Dobson. I was spending the day there with my sister Raine.
We walked to the door, Mum knocked before she opened the door. The first thing I noticed was Bronie. She was dropping Tamsin off for the day.
As I  looked around the daycare I heard her say. “ Do you want to help me clean the school?”
I thought yes and I said” Yes, yes, yes.”
I knew that this was going to be the perfect day.

Before we left Bronie said. "I’ve got to go to the bank before we go to the school do you want to come with me to the bank or stay here?"
I replied. " No, I will stay here until you come back. Then when you come back we will go."
I waited for Bronie to return. She did and we headed to school.

When we got to school Bronie said.  "First, you will go and get a hose." So I went to get the hose from the swimming pool.  While I was using the hose it made a swwwiiishhhhh noise. The next thing was a quick trip to the shop.

When we got to the shop Bronnie said. "What do you want?" So I looked around and I saw a little box of wedgies and I said. "I want them."
She paid for  them and  I heard her say. " You have a big job ahead and when you have finished it, I will buy you a packet of lollies to eat, whenever you want."

We went back to the school, Savannah was there and she offered to help me clean the back of the school. I was pleased. I said. "Yes."
Off we went and worked on our job. While we were doing our job we talked and found lots of rubbish. One of the pieces of rubbish I found was a yucky old ice block. After we had finished Savannah left and I went back to see my sister. at child care. Bronie took me t in the school van.

This was the perfect day.

The Perfect Day

I am learning to make my writing more interesting for the reader.

I know I will be able to do this when I add more detail, interesting words and include what I see, hear, smell and feel.

Taonga

We have been learning to make connections to the people and places that are important to us.

IMG_3640.JPGMy Taonga is a greenstone.

I have chosen my Taonga because it reminds me of my father who gave it to me when I moved to Nelson Creek and it reminds me of him.

The place I am connected to is Coromandel because I was born there and it’s my home town.

I have been able to make connections to my father because we are both connected to pig hunting because he found the greenstone when I was hunting with him. I can connect to Connor.
